The snap-in might not have been installed correctly. When I start the SQL Server 2017 Configuration Manager I see the following: Command line: C:\WINDOWS\system32\unlodctr.exe /m:hkengperfctr.xml from directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\140\Shared. PerfLib 2.0 counter removal failed with exit code 2. When I click 'OK' I get another ERROR right away: This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such as the failure of the WMI server to start. The MOF compiler could not connect with the WMI server. When I try to install SQL Server 2017 with the install media I get the following error: I have tried numerous times to uninstall with various uninstallers from MS, the add remove programs in control panel and of course the MS SQL uninstall media. A computer I am trying to install SQL Server 2017 Express has never successfully installed and repair doesn't help.
